Mario Girardi 1953
Mario Girardi was born in Vicenza in 1894.
In his twenties, he studied violin making with the master craftsman Sgarabotto, who lived in Vincenza in those days.
For three years from about 1916, his teacher Sgarabottowas gone for the war, which was one of the reasons why Girardi moved to Milan in 1920.
From around this period, he sought for and improved his own style. He moved to Trieste about 1930 and left many pieces of fabulous artwork to the following generations. He passed away in 1961.
The violin, introduced here, was made in 1953, in the latter half of his fifties, so-called his mature period. A rare piece of artwork of steady feeling structure, refined orangish varnish, and deep, powerful body-feeling sound.
