Nippon Violin Society: Recipient Selected for the Loan of a Giovanni Francesco Pressenda Violin Made in 1837

We are pleased to announce that Kanon Inoue, a second-year student at The Music High School Attached to the Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts, has been selected as the recipient of the Giovanni Francesco Pressenda violin made in 1837, for which applications opened in June of this year.
This violin was made in 1837 by Giovanni Francesco Pressenda, one of the most distinguished violin makers of 19th-century Turin. Created during an important period in which Pressenda had established his distinctive style, the instrument possesses a focused tone, excellent projection, rich expressive qualities, and a commanding presence in the concert hall.
Through the generosity of REI Collection, which is committed to supporting the continued development of young musicians, this exceptional instrument will be loaned to Kanon Inoue free of charge.
We sincerely hope that Ms. Inoue will explore new possibilities in her musical expression together with this historic instrument, which has been passed down for nearly two centuries, and that she will continue to achieve even greater growth and success in the years ahead.

Kanon Inoue

Born in 2009, Kanon Inoue began studying the violin at the age of three.
She has received First Prize at the 23rd and 26th Japan Players Competition, First Prize at the 20th Czech International Music Competition, Second Prize at the 78th Student Music Concours of Japan, Tokyo Division, the Highest Award at the 11th and 13th Sainokuni String Competition, and the Amada Prize, a Special Prize, at the 42nd Kanagawa Music Competition.
In 2022 and 2026, she was selected to participate in the International Music Festival NIPPON Public Masterclasses, where she studied with Akiko Suwanai, Mark Gothóni, and Benjamin Schmid.
In February 2026, she gave her debut solo recital. She has also appeared as a soloist with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Phil Musica Orchestra.
She is currently a second-year student at The Music High School Attached to the Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts, and studies with Tsugio Tokunaga, Chiyoko Noguchi, and Natsumi Tamai.

I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to receive such a magnificent Pressenda violin on loan. Along with my immense joy, I feel a renewed sense of responsibility as I reflect upon the instrument’s history, value, and significance.
The Pressenda’s embracing tone, which draws in everyone who hears it, and its vibrant, energetic resonance are precisely the qualities I have always sought in my ideal sound.
Having survived nearly two centuries and been passed down through periods of great historical change, I am certain that this instrument will become a great teacher to me in the years ahead.
I will never forget my gratitude to REI Collection for entrusting me with this violin, to everyone at Nippon Violin for providing me with this invaluable opportunity, and to the Pressenda itself for coming into my life.
Together with my new partner, I will cherish each and every performance, experience many new horizons, and devote myself wholeheartedly to growing as a musician.
